Montessori Community of Tanzania
The association of Montessori educators in Tanzania – the Montessori Community of Tanzania (MCT) – has existed since 1997 and is headquartered in Dar es Salaam. The founders of the association were the heads of the three Montessori training centres at the time: Baldegg Sister Denise Mattle, Usambara Sister Gaspara Kashamba, and the late Redeemer Sister Berntraud Schreck.
Today, Revocatus Sono chairs the seven-member board. Sarah Kiteleja is the managing director and is responsible for a team of four staff members at the Dar es Salaam office, as well as seven coordinators based across Tanzania who visit and support Montessori educators.
MCT aims to provide as many children in Tanzania as possible with access to Montessori-inspired education. As the national coordination hub for Montessori stakeholders in Tanzania, MCT is able to bring together all Montessori efforts in the country to drive systemic change in the Tanzanian education sector.
